Our Approach to Trauma Therapy

Everyone experiences trauma in some form during their life. While trauma is often associated with significant, life-altering events like a severe car accident, natural disaster, or dangerous situation, it can also arise from experiences such as a breakup, loss, injustice, abuse, or witnessing a distressing event. Trauma affects each person differently; your body remembers these experiences, and the way trauma presents itself can vary from one individual to another.

You may feel stuck or frozen in your past, reliving the trauma through flashbacks or nightmares. You might struggle to connect with others, feel detached from your body and surroundings, or experience unexplained physical symptoms like stomach issues or headaches.

When working with someone who have acute, chronic, or complex trauma, we focus on equipping you with effective coping skills such as muscle relaxation, grounding exercises, emotional regulation techniques, and building a support network to help alleviate feelings of isolation and stress.

Our trauma therapy approach is grounded in providing trauma-informed care that’s tailored to your unique needs. We offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a powerful method  that uses eye movements, hand tapping, and audio stimulation to alters the way traumatic memories are stored in the brain. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we help you identify and challenge negative thought patterns that keep you anchored in the past. The Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) teaches resilience and self-regulation by using strategies to restore balance in the mind and body. We also use Somatic Experiencing techniques to release stress and tension stored in the body, facilitating recovery from trauma, and Brainspotting, which helps process difficult emotions and memories through specific brainspots and eye positions.

Creating a safe and trusting environment is crucial for effectively processing trauma and embarking on a healing journey. In trauma therapy, you can find relief from the overwhelming anxiety that often accompanies traumatic experiences. When you feel secure—both physically and emotionally—you can regain control over your reactions and emotions, making it easier to navigate daily life.

This sense of safety also helps rebuild supportive relationships, where you feel understood, accepted, and not alone in your struggles. These connections are vital for emotional recovery, offering a foundation of trust and empathy that is profoundly healing.
